I am Alice Solantania Saga — fine art photographer, poet, performer, composer, and creator of the Planet Hope universe. I bloom forth. Forever.
Born in Sweden, I studied Fashion Marketing at Berkeley College in New York, and from 2000 to 2006 served as Fashion Editor at The New York Times Magazine, where I worked under the legendary fashion critic Amy Spindler. I styled covers and fashion stories for Fashions of the Times, photographed by Raymond Meier, Javier Vallhonrat, and Rankin, featuring Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Scarlett Johansson, and Zhang Ziyi.
After New York I moved to London, where I worked as Fashion Editor for Crash Magazine, Lurve Magazine, and Odalisque Magazine. My styling has also been published in NOVA, VICE, Image Magazine, Odd at Large, Petit Magazine, and +46 Magazine. My photography has been featured on Vogue Italia (PhotoVogue), Art + Commerce, and in The Sunday Times Style.
In London I founded Faerie Tales of Violette, a fine art magazine with four issues — each a world of ethereal photography, illustration, poetry, and fashion. When I lost my London home, the magazine paused, and I turned the camera on myself. All the self-portraiture — the faeries, the cherry blossoms, the Epping Forest dreamscapes — grew from that season of grief and rebuilding.
My photographs are love letters to the overlooked — cherry blossoms in early morning light, Epping Forest in November, a daffodil that blooms against every reasonable expectation. I am drawn to what endures quietly: flowers, faith, the faces of women who are dreaming.
Planet Hope is my central creative work — a gospel, a fairy tale cycle, a memoir, and a mythology all at once. It speaks through eight books of performance poetry, through the Faerie Tales of Violette, through every poem and photograph and song. Its refrain is simple: I bloom forth. Forever.
I now live in Sweden, with my cat Hope Sötnös Saga, Cream-Nosed Empress — my creative co-star and soul companion. I post when the spirit moves me, and my Instagram @alicesaga holds the in-between moments.
"that you are here — that life exists and identity, that the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse."
